National Indoor Stadium
The project is located in the B area of the Beijing Olympic Green. To its east is a square by the city axis, to its south is the National Aquatics Center. At its west side are the information building and the area of public buildings, and at its north side is the National Convention Center. It joins the National Stadium and the National Aquatics Center to form a sport events buildings group. As one of the major venues for the 29th Olympiad, Beijing 2008, events of artistic gymnastics (rhythmic gymnastics not included), handball finals (The preliminaries were held at Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium) and the Paralympics wheelchair basketball were held here. Totally 16 gold medals were awarded, 14 of which for gymnastics and 2 for handball, and 2 gold medals were awarded in Paralympics. The National Indoor Stadium is 335 meters long (south-north) and 207.5 meters wide (east-west) with a total area of 6.87 hectares. The project consists of the main stadium, a neighboring warm-up stadium, and the external surroundings. The Stadium has a seating capacity of 20,000 and the total construction area is 80,890 square meters. The structure of the main body of the indoor stadium is a combination of frame anti-seismic wall structure and the steel reinforced concrete frame–steel bracing structure. A bi-directional pre-stressed truss string structure is adopted for the steel roof truss. The Indoor Stadium has one storey below ground level and four storeys above ground level. The total construction cost is RMB468.3 million. The construction was started on May 28, 2005 and was finished on March 31, 2008. The National Indoor Stadium is owned by the Nation Stadium Investment and Development Corporation, Ltd, designed by Beijing Urban Engineering Design and Research Institute Co, Ltd and Beijing Institute of Architecture, constructed by the Beijing Urban Construction Corporation Group, Ltd, and supervised by Beijing Jian-Gong Jing-jing Da-Fang Engineering Construction Supervision Corporation.
