On Mar. 21 during his visit to Angola, Liu Qi, Beijing municipal party secretary paid an inspection visit to BUCG’s housing project in Kilamba－ Kiaxi.
Liu Qi inspected the whole project and attended a meeting with representatives of Chinese contractors to listen to their introduction to the project concept, design idea, construction progress and quality control methods. Liu Qi highly praised the construction mode, the design concept and the economical and social benefits brought by this project. He also highly valued the Citic construction joint fleet, including the design institute of BUCG for their courage, wisdom and achievements in the practice of “go out”.
On the meeting Wang Hanjun, the Director of the design institute of BUCG made a detailed report and stated that for overseas projects Chinese contractors should be used to and understand EPC rules and establish EPC main contracting mode and management system for a better use of the advantages of the design institute and make it to play its role in a more powerful way.
Kilamba Kiaxi Phase I is the largest overseas housing project undertaken by Chinese company under EPC contract model. BUCG Design Institute accomplished investigation and exploration, the master design and main contracting. BUCG sent its engineers and experts to site to carry out the comprehensive design, the investigation and exploration, site services, initial plan to push forward the progress. To date BUCG Design Institute has completed all of the design and all drawings submitted for review have been approved. In order to guarantee the proper work of the quality system, the design institute assisted its partners in updating the management system for monitoring the project quality and worked out a pattern of design plus quality monitoring to be used by the main contractors for overseas EPC projects management. The K.K. project will be completed and handed over in October, 2012.
It is reported that Angola social housing project is the largest one under construction in the world, with a total land occupation of about 56 square kilometers, and a total investment of $ 10b. It has attracted the attention of more than 10 African countries and their heads of states have already paid visits to the project. This housing project has become a sample for African social housing development. While setting an example for Chinese companies participating in African construction works, this project has built much closer relationships between China and Angola, and other African countries. Now Phase I is coming to its end, and a modern satellite city is taking shape and rising in the southern suburb of Luanda. (Qu Jinhong)
