On the morning of March 4, 2018 local time, the paving operation at the test section of AC-25 asphalt concrete undersurface layer on the airport patrol road in the reconstruction and extension project of Maldives Airport was started, which formally drew the curtain of the paving construction of asphalt concrete.
Construction personnel and mechanical equipment including dumper, paving machine, road roller and etc. have been all set, personnel engaged in project engineering, safety, technology and quality came to the site for standby, and quality engineers from the owner’s company and the consulting company all came to the site for supervision and inspection.
At 8:00am, the paving at the test section of asphalt concrete undersurface layer on the airport patrol road was formally started. The paving machine advanced slowly. Construction personnel performed their own duties, and the paving operation was made in an orderly way. Double-drum road roller and rubber wheel road roller carried out rolling compaction with the paving progress; the dumper travelled to and fro between the stirring station and the airport patrol road to guarantee the supply of asphalt concrete ceaselessly; inspection personnel made tracking and actual measurement towards stirring temperature, paving temperature and rolling compaction temperature, provided accurate data for the implementation of various procedures, made onsite inspection and record towards elevation and evenness after rolling compaction, and guaranteed final construction quality; management personnel paid close attention to every detail in construction, made correction once any problem was found, and brought process quality under strict control.
It took three hours for the construction at the test section of asphalt concrete on the airport patrol road, and the paving and rolling compaction of 320m AC-25 asphalt concrete undersurface layer was completed. With orderly arrangement and smooth implementation of construction process, the construction of asphalt concrete at Maldives Airport was started, which has accumulated experience for the paving of asphalt concrete on the main runways in the future.
