On the afternoon of April 3, 2018 in Maldives local time, the construction of pouring of cement concrete panels of south defense blast pad in the reconstruction and expansion project of Maldives Velana International Airport, symbolizing the official launch of another important construction node following the construction of asphalt concrete paving in the undersurface layer of new runways.
At 5:00pm, with the first pouring of concrete, excavator initial leveling, vibrating, thick liquid kneading, plastering, slot scraping, joint cutting and etc., workers implemented every process in the construction of cement concrete panels in an orderly way. Till 10:00pm, the first pouring of concrete was completed. Since then, the Project Department of Reconstruction and Expansion of Maldives Airport would carry out pouring of cement concrete in the expansion part of south defense blast pad, north defense blast pad, east airport apron and west airport apron. It is expected that such work will last three months.
So far, the paving operation of 2000m asphalt concrete of undersurface layer at the north section of newly built primary runways in the reconstruction and expansion project of Maldives Velana International Airport has been completed, and the construction of asphalt concrete of undersurface layer at the south section of newly built primary runways will be made soon. Besides, groove backfilling has also been started in the airport apron refueling pipeline at the primary runway section, which has taken a stride towards the qualification for calibration flight on primary runways on August 31.
