At 14:00 pm local time on May 10, the graded gravel pavement of base course in the Madiwalu Airport project in Maldives commenced, marking the formal entry of the roads in this project into the pavement construction phase.
The materials used in the construction of graded gravel base course were mixed by the water-stabilized mixing station at the Velana International Airport, shipped to the construction site 140 km away, and paved by two pavers. It is expected to be completed in about one month, and asphalt pavement will be carried out after the completion of the construction. The entire pavement is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
The Madiwalu Airport project in Maldives consists of a new 1,200m long and 30m wide runway, a new apron, two vertical taxiways, two fire exits, and the corresponding revetment works and soil surface works. The project department overcame the factors such as remote geographical location, inconvenient transportation of materials, limited unloading capacity of terminal, etc., and actively organized construction to provide necessary conditions for the project's quality and performance on schedule. Since the commencement on September 17, 2018, the approximately 195,000 cubic meters of blowing sand reclamation construction and corresponding earthwork construction have been completed.
