On November 12, in 2019 "Belt and Road" International Forum, Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives in China Aishath Azeema presented Chen Daihua, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of BUCG with the Economic Development Contribution Enterprise Award and the Economic Development Contribution Entrepreneur Award to commend BUCG and Chen Daihua for the valuable contributions in the process of Maldivian economic construction.
Chen Daihua was invited to give keynote speeches at the forum to introduce BUCG's key projects as well as the practice and achievements of BUCG's response to "Belt and Road". Chen Daihua pointed out that the joint construction of "Belt and Road" was a major strategic initiative put forward by the CPC Central Committee with Secretary General Xi Jinping at the core in the new era. Based in Beijing, BUCG actively responds to the country's call of "going global" and became a firm practitioner of "Belt and Road".
At present, BUCG's international business covers 31 countries and regions along "Belt and Road", and has completed more than 64 construction projects of airport, theater, road, and water affairs with the contract value exceeding 20 billion yuan.
In 2019, BUCG won new bids for China's largest foreign aid project since China's Reform and Opening up — Pakistan Gwadar New International Airport, as well as China-aided Congo (Kinshasa) African National Cultural and Art Center, China-aided Cameroon National Assembly Building and other major projects.
While participating in "Belt and Road" construction, promoting local economic development and fulfilling social responsibilities, BUCG has also achieved rapid development.
Chen Daihua stated that Maldives is China's close partner on the Maritime Silk Road and the most important international business market of BUCG. In September, 2014, the heads of China and Maldives jointly witnessed the signing of Maldivian International Airport reconstruction and expansion project.
Over the past five years, thanks to the successful implementation of the reconstruction and expansion project of Maldives International Airport, the Maldivian government and people have increased trust and friendship with BUCG, and the projects of Seaplane Terminal, airport auxiliary facilities, Madivaru Airport, Hulhumale Apartment Building have been successively implemented. It is believed that in the near future, with the joint efforts of both parties, the Maldives Airport Economic Zone project will surely become a model for capital enterprises to go to sea in group, and a model for bringing Chinese standards and Chinese solutions to benefit the people of the Maldives.
It is understood that the forum is cosponsored by China Internet "Belt and Road" Network, "Belt and Road" International Think Tank of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Maldives Embassy in China, International Exchange Department of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, Jiangsu Normal University, and "Belt and Road" Research Institute of Beijing Normal University. More than 200 Chinese and foreign guests from 46 countries attended the forum to discuss innovation and cooperation, including envoys from related countries, relevant heads of national ministries and commissions, experts from universities, research institutes and think tanks, and representatives of the business community.
