On October 12, 2024, local time, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone jointly attended the inauguration ceremony for the China-aided Mahosot Hospital building in Vientiane, Laos. The China-aided Mahosot Hospital in Laos is one of the largest, most bed-capacity, and highest-investment hospitals built by the Chinese government in its foreign aid initiatives to date. It is a flagship project in the field of livelihood under the Belt and Road Initiative. The completion of the hospital is not only a significant step forward in advancing local healthcare development but also a practical initiative that will optimize the allocation of local medical resources, enhance the capacity of medical services, and promote high-quality development in Laos's healthcare sector. This project will also serve as another historical testament to the friendship between China and Laos, marking a milestone for further deepening cooperation in the health sector between the two countries. The project involves expanding and constructing new facilities based on the existing hospital, with a total building area of approximately 54,000 square meters. The entire project is divided into two phases of construction. Phase 1 of the project includes the Infectious Disease Building, Inpatient Building, Lecture Hall, and a newly constructed sewage treatment plant. It was handed over to the hospital for use on November 11, 2021, and the excellent quality of the construction has received high praise from both the Lao government and the hospital authorities. Phase 2 of the project includes the Outpatient and Emergency Complex Building and the Medical Technology Building, and it will be a large-scale general hospital with 600 beds. This hospital will become the largest and most general hospital in Laos and the surrounding areas, featuring a full range of departments and serving as an important medical teaching base.
