On June 28 an inaugural ceremony was held for Kun Ming Changshui International Airport. At 8:00 am MU5939 of the East Airline departed from Changshui for Shangri-La and 7:35 MU5950 departed from Lijiang for Changshui. They were the first flights respectively departing from and arriving at Kun Ming Changshui international airport. On the same day, there were 352 flights running at the airport, with 156 arrivals and 156 departures carrying about 40000 passengers.
According to report, Kun Ming Changshui International Airport was a major project approved for construction during the eleventh five year plan and it was also a big transport hub associated with the long development of Yunnan Province. The project was commenced at the end of 2008 and BUCG used 3 years constructing a huge and modernized airport with high technology and environment protection standards.
