
On January 1, Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd. received a Letter of Acceptance from the BML Affordable Home Leasing Company, confirming their successful bid for a project involving 1,190 affordable housing units in Hulhumalé, Maldives. This marks a promising start for the company in the overseas market in 2026. Recently, the project has completed the site handover. After completion, the project will become another important achievement of China-Maldives cooperation in the field of people's livelihood under the "Belt and Road" initiative.
The project is located on Hulhumalé Island, Maldives. It is a large-scale housing project launched by the Maldivian government for local low- and middle-income people. It aims to effectively solve the housing problems currently faced by the Greater Malé area. The project covers 1,190 affordable housing units in 4 plots. As a livelihood project that the government focuses on, it has been officially included in the Maldives National Affordable Housing Plan. It will drive the development of local construction, consumption, and other related industries, create more jobs, and promote the maturity and improvement of Hulhumalé.
After the completion of this project, it will effectively reduce the population pressure in Malé, the capital of the Maldives. This initiative will serve as a key lever for achieving population relocation, improving people's livelihoods, enhancing economic development, and promoting eco-friendly practices.
