On December 30, 2025, Beijing Tongzhou Station, located in the comprehensive transportation hub of Beijing's sub-center, was officially opened for operation, marking the successful formation of Beijing's "eight stations and two airports" comprehensive transportation hub layout, injecting strong momentum into the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The Beijing urban sub-center comprehensive transportation hub is an important infrastructure for promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. According to the plan, the hub will be opened in phases, with facilities being enhanced as construction advances through a model of gradual and regional openings. The first phase of the project will be put into use in the core area, mainly at Beijing Tongzhou Station. In its initial operation phase, Beijing Tongzhou Station will run passenger trains to Tangshan, Qinhuangdao, Beichen (Tianjin), and other destinations. Passengers can transfer between the Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway and Metro Line 6, taxis, ride-hailing services, buses, shuttles, etc. This connectivity will further reduce travel time and enhance accessibility within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The Group's Construction Department and Beijing Uni.-Construction Group Co., Ltd. (BUCC), respectively, undertook the construction tasks of Lots 02 and 03 of the Beijing urban sub-center comprehensive transportation hub, with a total floor area of 560,000 square meters. After six years of hardship and perseverance, the Group's builders transformed the project from blueprint to reality.
The main construction contents of Lot 02 undertaken by the Group's Construction Department include civil works in the west connection area, civil works beneath Furong Road in the west throat area, the "Beijing sail" roof, supporting municipal road works, etc.
Faced with multiple challenges such as complex geology, intensive cross-construction, and tight construction period, the project team used the innovative "top-down cover-excavation" process to remove millions of cubic meters of earthwork, control the surrounding settlement with millimeter-level accuracy, successfully overcome construction difficulties such as high water levels of more than 30 meters underground, large burial depths, and multi-line intersections, and built a comprehensive traffic artery integrating railways, subways, buses and other functions underground.
In the construction of the "Beijing sail" roof, the project team used digital technology to carry out virtual pre-assembly, optimized the construction proposal through 3D model simulation welding process, and introduced industrial robots to implement automatic cutting and welding, successfully increasing assembly efficiency by 40% and reducing scrap rate by 15%. The 10 "Beijing sails" shine brightly against the facade, becoming an iconic landscape of the hub.
The construction content of Lot 03 undertaken by BUCC includes Pinggu Line Station, Urban Corridor, Hub Equipment Area, Secondary Development Car Garage, Secondary Equipment Room, Secondary Commercial, Metro Line 6 Channel Civil Works, Electromechanical and Decoration Construction, as well as E&M Equipment and Glass Curtain Wall Construction in the M101 Line Area.
To address the impact of super-large and ultra-deep foundation pit construction in the Pinggu Line area on adjacent intercity station sections, the project team continuously optimized the excavation sequence and support plan through numerical simulation excavation, set up excavation test sections, and formulated monitoring plans. The problem of limited simultaneous construction under the bottom-up open-cut method and the top-down cover-excavation method was solved, and the project progressed 8 months ahead of schedule.
As the core channel connecting intercity stations and rail transit, the channel connected to Metro Line 6 (Beiyunhe East Station) innovatively adopts a dual-path transfer function between ground and underground. Among them, a small unit curtain wall system is used on the M101 station hall. Drawing inspiration from the overlapping "tile" roofs of ancient architecture, the design creates a 16.5-meter-high and 88-meter-long arcing glass curtain wall that allows citizens to fully enjoy the sunlight while transferring. This design embodies the hub's commitment to green, energy‑saving, and environmentally friendly construction.
Beijing sails into a new journey toward a shared future. Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd. is committed to upholding the national craftsman's spirit and fulfilling its mission. Taking the commissioning of Beijing Tongzhou Station as a new starting point, the Group will continue to deliver high-quality projects and contribute to urban construction, supporting the national strategy and the development of a strong transportation network in the country.
