On January 10, local time, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the preliminary works of Bishoftu International Airport in Ethiopia (hereinafter referred to as the preliminary works). The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, state government officials, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, and more than 300 political and business representatives attended. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali delivered a speech and laid the foundation stone for the project together with Mr. Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, announcing the official launch of the project.
Bishoftu International Airport is located approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, with an altitude of 1,910 meters. The geographical location and meteorological conditions are conducive to flight operations. The first phase of the airport is designed to have an annual passenger throughput of 60 million. Through subsequent expansion projects, the final annual passenger throughput is expected to reach 110 million. After completion, the airport will complement the existing Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, support the rapid development of Ethiopian Airlines, and help Ethiopia become a world-leading aviation hub.
The preliminary project Lot 3 undertaken by the International Business Division includes earthworks, runways, surrounding roads, and fences in the central area of the airport. As one of the important achievements of Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd. in deepening the African market, this project will inject strong momentum into the Group's development during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. Going forward, the project team will organize and manage the construction operations scientifically and systematically. This approach will help ensure that various tasks are executed as planned, ensure excellent performance of the project, and highlight the quality of urban construction.
